Blast furnace slag is a kind of waste discharged from the blast furnace when smelting pig iron and is one of the main industrial solid wastes. The main ingredient is a fusible mixture of gangue, ash, fluxes and other impurities that can not enter the pig iron.

Blast furnace slag is a silicate material, which is a molten body formed at a high temperature of 1400-1600°C, thereby it can facilitating be processed into a wide variety of building materials.
