Global Demand: Gypsum VS Cement

How is the global demand of gypsum based products and cement based product?

It is said that around 50% of the global gypsum wallboard capacity and demand is in the USA. Wallboard was developed there and has been marketed in the country since the early 20th century. Then it has become a primary building material for internal wall surfaces in residential (and sometimes commercial) constructions. The 2012 Global Gypsum Directory lists a combined capacity of 3.5 billion square metres of wallboard in the USA, Europe next and Asia has less capacity.

As to the cement industry,new capacity in Asia is always emerging. China with state-owned BNBM (part of CNBM) is a major supplier of wallboard here.The cement industry in India is also growing continuously. According to  research reports the Indian cement consumption is expected to increase at a rate of 9-11 % per year. The rising costs of raw materials like gypsum and coal have been playing a heavy strain on the cement and construction industry.
